Ugliness Within

Do you feel clean inside?  Or are there times that ugliness seems to be lurking inside of you.  And then there comes along an event, moment, or something that brings this ugliness to the surface.  

It happened to me today.  Taxes.  That is what started it.  Don't you just hate this time of year when you are pressured to have your taxes done.  I pay me taxes, that's not the problem, but I'm not the most organized person and I always have to search to find everything I need.  

That's when it happened.  I found an account that I was being charged for.  I looked in bewilderment at the statement.  How could they charge me while they are using my money.  I feel like I have been robbed.  Why didn't I notice it before?  10 years.  That's how long it's been happening...and I was never observant enough to see it.  

That's when the ugliness came out  I blamed my husband.  Why you ask?  I file the statements.  My husband never even opens them.  Ever...   He pays the monthly bills.  I never see these bills.   I want to share in this responsibility.  He says he wants me to be a part of paying them too.  But it never happens.  It seems like a secret that I'm not involved in.   

I ended up making him cry.  The ugliness came out.   Does it ever come out in you?

Just Like Jesus Devotional {Review}

Just Like Jesus  Devotional by Max Lucado

This is a 30 day devotional that begins daily with scripture verses.  The daily reading itself is relatively short.  However, at the end of each devotional, there is a time for reflection.  Max Lucado helps direct your thoughts with questions that will help you to look deeply within yourself.   

Max Lucado is a wonderful writer and his writing quickly captured my attention.  I knew that this was going to be a very thought provoking devotional even before I finished reading the introduction.  The words flowed from the pages as I read the introduction and I was totally mesmerized. 

As I progressed through the daily reading, my heart was challenged.  Having a heart like Jesus was very thought provoking for me.  Throughout the book, I enjoyed reading about the author’s life experiences and other stories he shared.  It was very easy to read, but spending time reflecting proved to be challenging and a great deal of time spent with the Lord.

The only criticism of the book that I didn’t not like was the different translations that were used.  I had to keep jumping from Bible to Bible to read the passages.  

I would definitely recommend this book to someone that is looking to grow in their walk with the Lord.

It's Not the Beginning...It's the Start

I had a difficult time coming up with a name for my blog.   Finally I decided on Golden Treasures of Life.  Is everything in life a treasure you might ask?  At first glance, probably not, but I believe that there is a reason for everything and its purpose is important...even though I may never fully understand it.

I'm going to use this blog to write about:

• the frustrations I've encounter
• jobs I've had
• my friends
• feelings of betrayal
• the journey of losing weight and gaining it back
• memories of my childenhood & lack of memories
• books that have had an impact on my life

• favorite foods and foods that are disgusting
• places I've been & places I want to go
• the list is endless.... but it's all about what's touched me enough to remember
